Housekeeping Staff
Housekeeping staff is available Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. to clean and maintain residence hall buildings.

To ensure a comfortable and healthy living environment, the housekeeping staff performs the following tasks:

• Cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms and fixtures on a rotating schedule.
• Surface cleaning bathroom
• Cleaning and disinfecting showers
• Removing common area trash and recycling material
• Sweeping and vacuuming lobby areas and hallways
• Cleaning lobby areas
• Repairing and maintaining building system components (as needed)
• Performing other duties as necessary

Student Responsibilities

Each student is responsible for the condition of his/her residence room, furnishings, and any damages or losses that may occur during occupancy.  We are very lucky to have such wonderful staff who take care of us extremely well.  Our housekeeping staff take care of messes that we wouldn't even want to think about, so it is important each student takes action to prevent unnecessary cleaning needs that adds to the workload of housekeeping staff. Additional cleaning requirements beyond the normal cleaning schedules results in less time for staff to spend on their routine tasks to meet established cleaning standards.

To help keep the residence halls clean, students should:

• Dispose of trash in designated areas, making sure everything goes in, not around, the containers. Personal trash should not be placed in bathroom or lobby receptacles.
• Sort recyclable material by following the instructions on the receptacles.
• Clean up after themselves. If a student creates a mess or becomes ill, it is that student’s responsibility to clean up the mess.
• Routinely clean their rooms.
• Never put food down the bathroom sinks!
Vacuum cleaners are available for student use. Students should see their RAs for additional information.

Damage Free Program

We enjoy our communities.  Behrend has excellent residence halls that look and feel cozy.  From time-to-time there are concerns with damages to our community and this really puts a damper on how your experience will be while you're here.  In order to encourage responsible living and a clean and safe environment we have the Damage Free Program.  The Damage Free Program rewards communities that go 30 days without any damage charges.  Residents are notified about how well they're doing in the program by looking at the bulletin boards in their restrooms, or by talking with their RA.  Notices are given when a potential damage charge may be applied so that students are aware of potential consequences should no one come forward about the damage.  Congratulations are posted each week that a community goes without a damage charge.
Welcome to living on campus!  The SPARC Program is intended to help with your transition both inside and outside of the classroom.  Your Student Academic Leader (SAL) is a fellow Behrend resident who is determined to help make your first year living experience one to remember.  Community building is very important and so make sure you are keeping your eye out for any community events your SAL is planning.  The Resident Assistants will also have many great programs for you to choose from.  Getting to know your neighbors, learning how to deal with conflict, and adjusting to sharing a room are all good skills to get a head-start on!
