Behrend Track & Field Conclude Season with 15 ECAC Participants
The
Penn State Behrend track & field teams finished off another successful
season by sending 15 team members to the ECAC Championships in Springfield,
Massachusetts. Earl Bass (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls), Virginia
Rodgers-Owens (Washington, DC/P.L. Dunbar), Mike Ferraro (Erie/Harborcreek),
Kevin Gorny (Erie/McDowell), Bryson Hartzler (Belleville/Indian Valley),
Tyler Johnson (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie Central), Denny Kang (South Park/South
Park), Samantha Kristufek (Butler/Moniteau), Ronson Mazany (Ashville,
NY/Panama Central), Doug Stevenson (Sharpsville/Sharpsville), Mike Stark
(Gibsonia/Pine-Richland), Phil Stuczynski (Girard/Girard), Jordan Telin
(North Huntingdon/Norwin), Dana Turley (Sarver/Freeport), Amanda Wehrle (Rossiter/Punxsutawney)
all qualified to compete at the championships by hitting the required
qualifying times and distances earlier in the outdoor season.
The 15 Behrend Lions competing was the most the blue and white had ever seen qualify for the ECAC Championships. At the meet, Kang was named All-ECAC in the men’s pole vault, finishing sixth in the event with a height of 4.40m. Ferraro came in fifth in the 100 meter dash, crossing the line in 11.14. He was named All-ECAC in the 100 meter dash. The 4x400m relay team of Ferraro Stevenson, Johnson, and Stuczynski also received All-ECAC honors for their 42.87 finish for sixth place in the event. In addition, Turley set a new Behrend record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 65.14. Gorny set a school record as well, with a 9:41.36 finish in the 3000m steeplechase.
