Behrend Opens AMCC Tournament with Decisive Victory

Penn State Behrend opened the AMCC tournament with a decisive victory over the Pitt-Bradford Panthers on Saturday, October 31 by a score of 6 to 1.  In the process, Behrend tied the school record for wins with fourteenth win of the 2009 season. The blue and white also registered 14 wins in 2003 and 2005 when they won the AMCC title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

The blue and white were ready to begin the 2009 AMCC tournament and they showed that in the opener against Pitt-Bradford.  The Behrend Lions jumped on the Panthers in the first half and kept their foot on the pedal and never looked back.  Three goals were scored within three minutes of play in the middle of the first half with Lance Sabol (North Huntingdon/Norwin) finding the back of the net on a double assist from teammates Josh Teti (McKeesport/Elizabeth Forward) and Jerry Tortella (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson).  Aaron Meehl (North East/North East) caped off the the three minute outburst with a goal of his own.  The score at the end of the first half saw the blue and white up 5-0.

Penn State Behrend held strong in the second half with Sabol adding another goal to make three on the day.  The defense played tough all day limiting the Panthers in shots and never squandering the lead.

Penn State Behrend now sits at 14-4-2 overall. The Behrend Lions will now play again in the second round of the tournament against the Penn State Altoona Lions on Wednesday, November 4 at a time to be announced.
