Behrend Baseball Sweeps Pitt-Bradford, Moves to
4-0 in AMCC

The
Penn State Behrend baseball team swept a doubleheader with the Pitt-Bradford Panthers on
Wednesday, April 2 at the Behrend baseball field. The blue and white
pounded out 21 total hits winning 11-4 and 7-2.
Behrend improves to 11-4 on the season and a red-hot 4-0 in AMCC league play.
The Behrend Lions have now won six straight games.
In game one, a 2-2 game was broken open when the Behrend bats came alive in
the bottom of the fifth inning, torching the Pitt-Bradford Panthers for nine
runs. The Panthers would score twice in the top of the
seventh before starting pitcher Charles Zimoski (Oil City/Oil City) closed
the door with a complete game victory. Jon Gray (State College/State
College) went 3-for-4 scoring two runs, while Adam Martin
(Rochester/Rochester) knocked in three runs. Josh Fyffe
(Fredonia/Sharpsville) and Dustin Dubensky (Punxsutawney/Punxsutawney) each
scored twice in the win.
In game two, the Panthers broke a scoreless tie in the fourth, scoring twice
to take the lead. Behrend came right back in the bottom of the inning
with three runs to grab a 3-2 advantage. Behrend would add three more in
the fifth and another run in the sixth for the 7-2 win. David Miller
(St. Marys/St. Marys) went 3-for-4 at the plate, knocking in two runs.
Zach Sullivan (Oil City/Oil City) also had two RBIs as Behrend completed the
sweep. Getting the win for the blue and white was pitcher Blake Pavlik
(Apollo/Kiski Area) who went three and two-thirds of an inning with two
strikeouts.
The blue and white will be back in action on Thursday, April 3 when they
take on the Grove City Wolverines. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. at
the Behrend baseball field. The men will then host the Penn State
Altoona Lions on Saturday, April 5 at 1:00 p.m. in a doubleheader to be
broadcast on Image Sports.
