Investments Overhaul Physics Facilities

The School of Science has completed a major overhaul and modernization of the physics teaching laboratories.

New experiments were added in mechanics, electricity and magnetism, optics, thermodynamics, and atomic physics to augment recently revised physics courses for scientists and engineers, PHYS 211, 212, 213, and 214.

The laboratories include innovative uses of computers for measurement, data analysis, simulations, and collaborative learning; and feature a dynamic, participatory environment.  Honors sections will have a studio physics environment.

To fund the new program, a grant for $50,500 from Penn State's University Classroom Improvement Fund was matched by $24,000 from School of Science funds and transfer of twenty Pentium computers from Behrend's Computer Center.
