SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES International Studies Requirements Prescribed Courses (18 Credits) INTST 100: Introduction to International Studies. This is an interdisciplinary introduction to a range of global issues. The course emphasizes themes of international interdependence and globalization, their development over time, and the involvement of the United States in these processes. In both written and oral work students relate international issues to their field of study. Foreign Language: 12 credits of a foreign language or evidence of third-semester proficiency. INTST 400W: Seminar in International Studies. This is a capstone research seminar for upper-level students focusing on critical international or multicultural issues from an interdisciplinary perspective. A different topic will be selected for the focus of each seminar. The course includes lectures and discussion by faculty, students, and outside speakers, as well as individual student projects. Supporting Courses (12 Credits) Students select 12 credits of internationally oriented courses in consultation with an International Studies adviser. A list of recommended courses is maintained by the college's International Studies Committee. At least 3 credits must be at the 400 level and outside the major. Credits earned through approved academic study abroad may be counted in this category. |
